Common Ground , located at 721 Mechem Dr., is much more than the name suggests.  It is a unity center that offers low cost activities that fosters’ community wellness and is accessible to everyone.  It is an art gallery, dance studio, activity center,  recycling drop-off-center,  trade store,  meeting space,  party space and a place for Lincoln County and Mescalero residents to come together for a healthier community.

By understanding that for thousands of years people  have used dance and music to come together to celebrate life and share in culture,  the supporters of Common Ground have  organized to construct an environment that supports the philosophy of “being the change we wish to see”  by  creating activities that promote personal, family, community and environmental wellness.

To promote individual wellness activity and a philosophy of loving and developing the self, the center offers personal enrichment through dance, exercise and social activities.  It promotes  family wellness by allowing children at all their activities. Common Ground offers family activities that promote family interaction, educating participants about health, citizenship, altruism and creativity utilizing music , art, dance, and games to name a few.

In addition, Common Ground supports community health related activities such as the Lincoln County Health Council an organization focusing on creating a healthier County.  Their next event is the Fitness Challenge in January so stay tuned... Common Ground continues to support motion pictures and theater by opening the space for rehearsals, performances and production meetings.   

Another Common Ground mission is to promote environmental wellness by implementing environmental lessons in all they do.  Common Ground recycles and offers discounts to visitors who recycle individually or carpool to activities.  This earth friendly philosophy educates others on the “Three R’s”; (reduce, re-use, and recycle), water conservation and being a steward of the environment.  

Also located within the center is The Thrift, a trade shop, open from 10:00am-3:00pm Wednesday through Saturday’s that offers used clothes and household items to promote the reuse aspect of recycling as well as generate revenue to allow for free and low cost classes.
